Changing Nature of Internet Marketing

One thing that has become somewhat obselete as far as Internet Marketing goes is 'Safelists'. Back about 5 or so years ago, everybody was using them, sending out emails to thousands of people in the group. It got to the point where if you were a member of a safelist or two, you would receive hundreds of emails from people daily. The problem was that all these people were trying to market to each other; fellow marketers. About this time they lost their effectiveness, and with the additional Spam laws put in place, you don't see Safelists being used as much these days.

Marketing With Blogs

One of the most effective ways to market on the Internet at present is blogging. You can set up blogs at Blogger at no cost, and have your blog up and running in minutes. While you can blog about anything, you're more likely to get more interest with a topic that has mass appeal. For instance, blogging about the latest Video games, Cell Phones, Ipods, or other popular topics is likely to bring you a ton of traffic if done right.

Once you have a blog up and running, you need to monetize it by placing ads on your blog. This can be done in a couple of ways. First, you can sign up with a site like Adsense. With Adsense, you make money when people click on Google ads placed on your blog. You can also market products from places like Clickbank and other Marketplaces. With a site such as Clickbank, when people click on the ads, they are taken to a Merchant's site. If while there the individual buys something, you receive a commission from the proceeds of the sale. This can range anywhere from 5% up to 75% depending on the price of the items. If you have your own website, you can also insert links that take them to your site.

One of the better sites to learn about Blogging is at;

Internet Marketing is a work in progress. Many times it seems to change faster than a politician's speech. For instance, there was a time when Hit or Click Exchanges produced good results for those using them. Now however, there are many more effective ways to spend your time marketing. Of course a lot of it has to do with how much money you have to spend. If your budget is small, then things like Hit Exchanges might be something to spend some time with. One of the key factors with using them is having something unique from the mulitude of affiliate sites that are shown on them. If you are able to create your own pages, and have something that would be of interest to the other marketers and webmasters using the exchanges, then it might be worth your while to use them.

Let me say right off, that I'm not a marketing 'guru'. In fact, I'm not sure what a 'guru' is other than it sounds like a big hairy beast. Come to think of it, I guess I am a 'guru'.

But back to the issue, when you first go online and start checking out some sites, possibly some affiliate programs, most will say 'we have an automated marketing system that will do 99.5% of the work for you'. Really? Then what do you need me for? Hmmm. What usually happens is you'll start marketing the same site that 10,000 other people are marketing on the Click or Hit Exchanges, Safelists, FFa Blasters, Auto-surf site, email-blasters, etc. etc. These are for the most part FREE traffic sources and as is usually the case, you get what you pay for, which in this case is nothing.(There are legitimate FREE ways to build traffic, that won't cost you any money, but do require effort)

There are also several paying traffic generators that you can use as well. One that I've used with some success is Pay Per Click Advertising. This is basically a keyword auction in which you bid a set price for a keyword. The price you pay is determined by the keyword popularity and how high of a listing you want. This type of advertising can bring you lots of traffic and sales, but you have to be careful because you can also burn through your funds real quickly. In fact, at this time there are investigations underway because of numerous complaints of 'Click Fraud' in which companies basically pay individuals to click on keywords thereby running up customers charges and depleting their funds. Be very careful with this type of advertising.

From what I've experienced it seems that many people who have had some level of success with these types of programs, have created their own system or way of marketing the program that works great, but usually by the time you get around to using it again another 10,000 or so people are using it and it's power is diluted. Another key factor is that many of the people who are successful have huge lists that they can market to which sort of guarantees some degree of success. I'm not knocking them in fact they have usually spent a good bit of time and money building these in-house lists.

Some of the guru's will even show you how to become a guru yourself if you spend $29.95 or so for their Guru handbook. I've bought a few of them, and while I learned a good bit about Internet Marketing, lists, and things like that, I still haven't managed to become a guru yet. It must be really hard to become a certified guru.

The point is many of the programs make it seem as easy as breathing to be a success at Internet Marketing and they tend to fail to mention the talent, hard work, determination, and all the other factors that make someone successful at Internet Marketing. I wish it might be that easy, so then maybe I could be a 'guru'.
